Family History

Abel Associates can sometimes extend its expertise to undertake genealogical research for private individuals at a competitive rate. We may be able to assist you if you have become stuck in your own research, or we can start you off by tracing some of your more recent ancestors from your paternal and maternal families.

Civil Registration

We specialise in research in England & Wales in the period from civil registration which began on the 1st July 1837. We have direct access to the General Register Office indexes of births, deaths and marriages and the various census returns from 1841 to 1911. Prior to 1837, many of the birth, marriages and deaths were recorded in the church parish records. Some parish records are available online, but these indexes are not complete and research is often required at the relevant county record office which now holds the old parish registers. Upon request, we may be able to undertake research at the Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey and Kent Record Offices and at the Public Record Office (PRO) at Kew and the London Metropolitan Archives (LMA).

We have, in the past, compiled family trees as a unique birthday, or anniversary gift.

We are also able to use our resources to trace living relations or long lost friends and can order and provide certified copies of birth, death and marriage certificates (see the Lawyers page).
